The ARM-based Samsung Chromebook was one of the first to offer a price tag that was as low as that of mid-range smartphones, and according to Business Korea, Samsung is prepping an upgrade to the original ARM Chromebook for a launch sometime in 2014. The upgraded Chrome OS-based laptop will come with a 2,560×1,600 12-inch (or less) screen, an octa-core Exynos CPU, 3GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB SSD storage, and 7 hours of battery life – the price tag will be somewhere between $250 and $300, making it yet another affordable Chromebook that could find attract a lot of price-conscious consumers in the market for a new laptop.

Google’s Chromebook has seen considerable growth in sales over the past 12 months, despite running an OS that depends heavily on internet access for most functions (apps such as Gmail and Google Drive can run offline, as can a few other apps found on the Chrome Store, though most data is still stored online on Google’s cloud servers), and the upgraded Samsung Chromebook will likely help Google achieve even higher market share in the personal computer market, owing mostly to the good pricing.

Samsung’s next ARM Chromebook to feature octa-core Exynos CPU, 2560×1440 screen

We now have another concept for the Samsung Galaxy S5, this one done by the GalaxyS5info.com website. This concept is "ripped from the headlines" as they used to say to tease Law and Order on NBC. In other words, some of the specs listed for this concept are really being bandied about for the real Samsung Galaxy S5.

We're talking about a 5.25 inch flexible curved display with 2K resolution. There is a metal body on the phone with quad speakers, one on each corner. The rear-facing ISOCELL camera captures video in 4K. The front-facing 4MP snapper takes video in 1080 x 1920. Under the hood is a 64 bit octa-core Samsung Exynos processor, with 4GB of RAM. Android 4.4 is pre-installed. And yes, there is an iris scanner.

Just this morning, Samsung announced its new LDDR4 RAM chip that could bring 4GB of the sweet stuff to the Galaxy S5. A curved screen is unlikely for the model, but could be done, and just the other day we told you that Sammy could be introducing two 64-bit application processors at CES. The Samsung Exynos 6 would feature ARM's 64 bit core while the Exynos S would offer Samsung's own 64-bit core. And an iris scanner is already rumored to be in the mix.

Here’s a cool new Samsung Galaxy S5 concept. Check it out!

LG G3 to include fingerprint scanner?
The Apple iPhone 5s and the HTC One max might not be the only handsets on the market to wield a fingerprint scanner, if the latest rumor is true. A published report out of Korea on Thursday indicates that the follow-up to the powerhouse LG G2 will include a fingerprint scanner. The scanner is expected to be similar to the one the HTC phablet, which requires the user to swipe his finger over the sensor. On the Apple iPhone 5s, the sensor is embedded into the home button which means that the user does not need to move his finger to get a reading.

An anonymous official who is close to the situation says that the Korean OEM has just made the decision to go ahead and include the scanner on the LG G3. Testing of the fingerprint scanner is still being done on a prototype. The LG G3 is being designed to sync with the company's upcoming LG G-Arch smartwatch and LG-Health fitness wristband.
"LG has recently made a decision to adopt the fingerprint scanner on the upcoming G3, the successor of the G2, and is conducting a series of tests for the product."-Anonymous LG official

The LG G3 and the wearable accessories are expected to be unveiled in February at MWC 2014 in Barcelona. The device is said to carry a 5.5 inch IPS LCD screen with resolution of 1440 x 2560 and be powered by a homegrown octa-core chip. The handset is also expected to include a 16MP rear camera

    Oppo's Find 7 now confirmed to boast a 5.5-inch 1440x2560 (538ppi) resolution display

Oppo has been teasing its upcoming refresh on the Find 5 – known as the Find 7 – for a while now, and while detailed information is, naturally, still pretty scarce, the latest teaser clearly shows that the new flagship will tout a 5.5-inch 1440x2560 pixel resolution display. The combo works out to 538 pixels per inch, which is mighty impressive, though we would like to see how much of a difference our imperfect eyes are going to be able to make out, compared with a 1080p panel.

Anyhow, if you thought the display on the Find 7 is impressive, wait until you hear the rest. If the insomniacs at the ever-watchful rumor mill are to be trusted, the new Oppo flagship will also come packing

     Qualcomm's minty fresh 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805,

with updated Krait 450 cores and

     a mighty Adreno 420 GPU.

Oppo is said to have also included 3GB of RAM,

     a 13MP rear shooter and

     a massive 4000mAh cell.

Obviously, do keep in mind that at this point, we can only vouch for the authenticity of the crisp display and nothing else, so take the above with a grain of salt

LG made its wearables debut with the GD910 in 2009
LG made its wearables debut with the GD910 in 2009

A very short report out of the ever-resourceful Korean media has started making rounds on the internet, a report that claims that LG's upcoming smartwatch could end up being called the 'G Arch'. What's even more, we're also told that the company is deep into the development of a fitness- and health-tracking wristband, dubbed G Health.

Equally as unconfirmed is the information about the launch of LG's first modern wearables supplied by the report, which puts the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 as the likely venue of the South Korean underdog's entry into the fledgling industry. Obviously, while we've known about LG's plans to entertain the possibility of wearables managing to entrench themselves into our lives (much like smartphones), there's honestly no telling whether the mobile expo over in Barcelona will see these materialize.

Information about the innards of both these devices is palpably scarce as of this writing, though we are led to believe that, for its part, the G Arch will work in tandem with an LG phone (no word on whether all Androids qualify), while G Health is supposed to work much alike to Nike's Fuel Band series. In any case, February, which is when the MWC will take place, isn't too far off now, so we'll keep you posted as soon as we start hearing more

The successor to the HTC One, code named as HTC One 2 is made up of resin has got revealed with its 3D mock-up giving an outer look of what this device is going to look like. This resin mock up is made using specifications given to the creator by an insider.

    HTC One 2

The sources also suggested that this device will be the next generation of the flagship HTC One that could be revealed at Mobile World Congress 2014 (MWC) in Barcelona, mostly last week of February. This device looks similar to the original HTC One but has a 5 inch display instead of a 4.7 inch seen in its predecessor. This display is about to come with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution giving it a slightly lesser 441 ppi than the original HTC One flagship model which had 468 ppi, similar ppi that can be seen on the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Most likely HTC One 2 will go with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor to power the device, but if it decides to roll out with Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 then we can see a video output at 4K resolution. This would likely be happening for the device, giving the best quality videos for its customers.

From the resin mock up design we can expect two speakers on the front side of the HTC One 2 branded with its own BoomSound speakers which has become a noticeable thing from HTC line up from past. The design with a bigger hole beside the rear camera suggest that this device will be rolling out with double flash or it could even be a mic hole also. The cameras are going to remain the same 4 MP (rear) and 2.1 MP (front) as we saw in the original HTC One flagship Android phone.

In the storage side, the device is expected with a 16 GB on-board memory that is likely to be extended with a microSD card slot. This device will be rolling out the box with Android 4.4 KitKat OS that will be ready to be unleashed. The pricing of the device cannot be predicted as we are not sure of all the specifications yet, but definitely it will be a high end model expected in high range.

We are pretty much excited to see HTC One 2 (the name might be changed!) very soon in the market, so does you? Will you be ready for the device?

The LG fans surely have some good rumors to rejoice about, as a few details about the next flagship G series Android smartphone are spread around, and the LG G3 is expected to come with a display having the 2K resolution, and along with that, there would be an octa-core chipset powering the smartphone. How good would that be? we already know how good the LG G2 is, with the unique (but really not a necessary change) design and the internal powering which provides a good performance.
Also known as the Quad HD, the display would be of the screen resolution 2560 x 1440 pixels, and that is not a part of more than a couple devices till now, and it hasn’t gone out of the Chinese market yet, thus LG coming up with that would be a direct competition against the Samsung Galaxy S5, which too is expected to come with a similar display, although the technology used by LG was an IPS one, while Samsung uses the Super AMOLED one.

    LG G2

With the G2 not receiving the appreciation the company expected, especially because of the awkwardly placed buttons, LG isn’t turning back because the G2 promised a good future for the Android lineup from the company, and the reason for that being the excellent Snapdragon 800 processor, and the 13-megapixel camera with the Optical Image Stabilization. What LG is trying to include in the G3, except for the display, is something which Gionee is already boasting about, in their latest flagship device – the Gionee Elife E7. But Gionee might not already see the similar craze because of the limited number of places where it is making the devices available.
Just like LG launched the G2 in the second half of 2013 (September 2013), they could be launching the successor to it in the second half of 2014. Let us see how good LG would be this time, after getting not-so-good market share this year with the disappointing numbers of LG G2 sales. To sum it up for now, here are the rumored specs:
    • Quad HD display – 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution
    • Octa-core chipset
    • 16-megapixel camera

The Gionee Elife E7 and Elife E7 Mini Smart Phones were launched in India after the Elife E7 was made available in the Chinese market, and the Mini version was just leaked earlier, and comes as a surprise with the sudden appearance during the launch in India. Many of you might be curious to know the difference between both the devices from Gionee so that you can choose one from both. Let us get a brief review of both the Smart Phones. Below are the comparisons between both the devices.

    Display Comparison

Gionee Elife E7 that was announced last month, flaunts a spectacular 5.5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) IPS touch screen display with One Glass solution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Whereas the Elife E7 Mini is the Mini version of this flagship model, sporting a 4.7 inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) IPS capacitive touch screen display which is relatively smaller, giving a better option for customers wanting smaller screens.

    Processor and Memory Comparison

The 5.5 inch beast is powered by a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 processor for its built in size, but the mini version of it runs on 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor. In terms of the storage, Elife E7 has two variants, one is the 2 GB RAM with 16 GB internal memory and the other is 3 GB RAM with 32 GB internal memory. The mini version has lesser RAM that is 1 GB and has 16 GB of internal memory. Gionee should have considered providing a better RAM under the hood of the Elife E7 Mini, as the users would expect to do a lot with the true octa-core chipset.

    Gionee Elife E7 Mini

    Camera Comparison

The Elife E7 comes with a 16 MP auto focus camera, with LED flash, capable of recording videos at 1080p and there is a 8 MP auto focus front facing camera. Something different and very much new in the Elife line is the 13 MP swivel (rotating) camera on the Elife E7 Mini which is capable of taking 1080p videos along with LED flash and autofocus. Further this camera can be used as both front and rear camera. This swivel camera was first seen in the Oppo’s N1, which was also 13 MP. So there you go, although a 16MP shooter is seen in the Elife E7, the E7 Mini can be called a better one as you have an optional 13MP for the front side too, with the camera swivel option.

    Operating System Comparison

The Elife E7 is running the Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) with Amigo 2.0 UI and it is the same with Elife E7 Mini.

    Connectivity Comparison

Gionee had introduced the Elife E7 with the 4G LTE connectivity option, while that is not there in the Mini version, although everything else is almost the same. The E7 Mini comes with the Dual-SIM connectivity, while the E7 can use just one SIM card.

    Battery Comparison

The Elife E7 has a 2500 mAh built-in battery which cannot be removed, and this could not be very much helpful for long hours of usage, while just comparing this to the battery in the Elife E7 mini, that gets even worse, because the Mini has a 2100 mAh battery, which based on the specs, would be able to provide longer usage. But the actual usage might tell the real story.

    Price Comparison

The Elife E7 will be selling for INR 26,999 for 2 GB RAM variant and INR 29,999 for 3 GB RAM variant. The Elife Mini is hitting the Indian market at 18,999 and expected to be available by end of January next year.

    Final Verdict

These two smartphones are quite different in a lot of ways, and the design too isn’t any same especially because of the camera which can be rotated from the front to the back and vice versa in the Elife E7 Mini. Going with the different specifications and pricing given, we would still suggest users to opt for the E7 if the budget is really not a concern, because of the 1080p display, as well as a chipset from Qualcomm.

After the rumors about the processor and the huge battery, cameras that might be coming in the Galaxy S5, we are now hearing that Samsung is considering to place a Quad HD screen with the screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 and along with that, there would be a fingerprint scanner as well as an Iris scanner. Imagine, having such a beautiful display, would really be good for the users, or would it drain power unnecessarily? Because, this is the resolution that you see on a 27-inch iMac from Apple.
According to BGR, contrary to the earlier rumors, Samsung will be launching two versions of the Galaxy S5, where the difference would be in the material used for the exterior – Plastic and Metal.
    Earlier:
The Galaxy S5 with a metal body is quite certain, as suggested by a report as Samsung is seriously looking to move ahead of the plastic construction they have used in several Galaxy devices, and the S5 being the next best flagship device, the company would be looking to make the best that remains the best choice for the entire year.
There are several concept photos and videos being sent by the designers and fans but Samsung hasn’t said anything officially about the next Galaxy. Taiwanese company Catcher was one of the first to get a deal for the metal casings for an upcoming smartphone from Samsung, and there are expectations that it could be the S5 for which Catcher is going to start the production soon.
    Earlier:
A video showing the concept of the Galaxy S5 showed quite a lot of high-end stuff and if this is all true, we are going to see a beast. That includes a 64-bit octa-core chipset, 3GB of RAM and a 5-inch (yes again a 5-inch one) with a better resolution, i.e. 2560 x 1440 pixels. The latest Snapdragon 805 processor was launched with the 16-megapixel camera support, and thus we are going to see a 16MP camera in this, and it would record 4k videos. The Android 4.4 KitKat OS is obvious, and we expecting to see a 4000 mAh battery packed in.
But, this is just a fan-made video. And still, we would be pretty happy to see if all this comes to reality.

Samsung has never kept the Galaxy series dull, but in that too, we get to see some specific devices getting their sucessor models in quick succession, and one of such is the Samsung Galaxy Core which was launched earlier this year, and we are seeing two new Core devices being announced already – Galaxy Core Plus and Galaxy Core Advance. There are no huge changes between these different smartphones, but Samsung knows how to make the most out of the successful mid-range devices and gain the market share.
Let us compare all the three with all the different aspects taken into consideration.

    Design, screen and display

There is no much difference in the three in terms of design, as Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones are almost the same at looks. But still, the Core Advance at least has got some difference on the front side where below the screen, there are three physical buttons instead of the single home button seen in the other two. The display is the same in all the three, except that the Galaxy Core Advance has a bigger 4.7-inch display, but the resolution is the same – WVGA.

    Samsung Galaxy Core Plus4.3-inch, TFT, 480 x 800 pixels
    Samsung Galaxy Core Advance4.7-inch, TFT, 480 x 800 pixels

    Processor, RAM and Storage

Again here, Samsung has done nothing much with the processor though we aren’t sure about the chipsets used in the Galaxy Core Plus and Advance devices, but the clocking speed is the same in all the three devices. The RAM is of 768MB in the Core Plus, while the other two have got 1GB RAM. The Galaxy Core Plus has an internal storage of 4GB, of which again some space might be used up by the system files and the OS, while the Galaxy Core and the Advance have got an internal storage of 8GB.

Samsung Galaxy Core Plus1GB RAM, 4GB Internal, Expandable to 64GB
Samsung Galaxy Core Advance1GB RAM, 8GB Internal, Expandable to 64GB

    Camera – Rear and Front

The 5-megapixel camera on the rear side of the Samsung Galaxy Core was quite good, and thus Samsung hasn’t made any changes to that as we see the same configuration in all the three smartphones, but the video recording was improved from 480p to HD 720p video recording in the Galaxy Core Plus, while we expect the same HD recording in the Advance, although there is no confirmation from the company for now.
    SmartphoneCamera – Rear and Front

Samsung Galaxy Core Advance5-megapixel, Autofocus, LED Flash, VGA front camera

    Operating System, Battery & Connectivity

Both the later versions of the Galaxy Core, i.e. the Plus and Advance versions come with the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, and they have a 2000 mAh battery in them, but the Galaxy Core was launched with the OS version that was latest during the launch, i.e. Android 4.1.2, although one can easily update it to 4.2 version. The battery in the Galaxy core has a capacity of 1800 mAh. The connectivity options are quite the same in all the three smartphones, though the Core Plus comes with the Wi-Fi direct feature.

Samsung Galaxy CoreAndroid 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS

    Overall Comparison

Samsung definitely knows how to attract buyers to choose the Galaxy smartphones, because although the Galaxy Core was one of the very well sold devices earlier this year, the company came up with the Plus and Advance versions of it, with no big differences. There are some areas where the Advance or Plus could be better than the first gen Galaxy Core, but that is not enough for someone to upgrade to the later ones. But of course, if you are thinking to buy a new mid-range smartphone, better wait until the Galaxy Core Advance is officially launched – especially for the improved battery life, better RAM than the Galaxy Core Plus and a little bigger screen (only if that matters to you).

The display is the same in all the three, except that the Galaxy Core Advance has a bigger 4.7-inch display, but the resolution is the same – WVGA.

The Samsung Galaxy Core was one of the very neat mid-range Galaxy series smartphone from Samsung, and it had gained some popularity against the competitor Sony Xperia M for the camera and the screen. Now, the company has announced the successor of it, with the Samsung Galaxy Core Advance with a 4.7-inch display being announced. The new smartphone comes with three physical buttons on the front bottom unlike the one home button that is seen in most of the other Galaxy devices.
The 4.7-inch display of the Galaxy Core Advance has a WVGA display with the screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Internally, the device is powered by a Dual-core processor clocking at 1.2 GHz, and thus except for the screen size, everything else looks quite the same because the Galaxy Core had the same display resolution as well as the processor. There is 1GB of RAM and an internal storage of 8GB with the storage expansion possible to 64GB with the MicroSD card. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.
    Samsung Galaxy Core Advance
Camera wise too there is no difference as the Galaxy Core Advance has a 5-megapixel rear auto-focus camera with the LED flash and a 0.3-megapixel VGA front facing camera. Samsung has done a little improvement to the battery capacity, where the Advance has a 2000 mAh battery (the Core had an 1800 mAh one). This is a single-SIM variant with the 3G connectivity with a plethora of other options to connect to the Internet and other devices around.
Now, the actual good things start here. The Galaxy Core Advance has got a few good features which would be helpful in the accessibility and usability. These include:
    • Optical scan: This technology would scan the image and read out the text by recognizing it
    • Light sensor: The light sensing technology uses the phone’s camera to sense the light direction and brightness
    • Instant voice recorder: Very easy and simplified access to make quick voice notes
    • TTS (Text to speech) functionality as well as Voice guided camera functions to take the pictures by speaking out the number of faces to be recognized and their standing location
    • Screen curtain: Operate commands on blank screen to ensure privacy and saving battery life
Apart from these, Samsung is including the standard Samsung smart features such as S Voice, S Translator, Sound & Shot, Group Play and Easy Mode in the device interface to enhance the user experience. The color options available are Deep Blue and Pearl White, but the details about the pricing and availability of the Galaxy Core Advance are not available for now. The expected time is early 2014.
