Sony has announced the Xperia T2 Ultra (D5303, D5306, XM50h, XM50t) and Xperia T2 Ultra dual (D5322) smartphones with 6-inch 720p IPS display, 13MP camera and 1.4 GHz Qualcomm MSM8928 Quad Core chipset with Adreno 305 graphics. Judging by the specifications, the phone is expected to be a mid-ranger despite the large display.
This can be seen by the paltry 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage (4.8GB usable), although you do get a microSD memory card slot. Camera duties are taken care of by a 13MP Exmor RS sensor and Sony’s smart social camera apps will be included. The front-facing camera has a 1.1MP sensor.
Sony has confirmed that the Xperia T2 Ultra will get a number of camera apps at launch including Portrait Retouch (virtual mirror), Collage (drop images into creative photo collages), Background defocus (bokeh), Timeshift burst and Sweep Panorama.
The Xperia T2 Ultra has a large 3000mAh sealed battery , which Sony says is good enough for 14 hours of GSM talk time. Other features include LTE, Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n) Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS, GLONASS and ANT+. The Xperia T2 Ultra has dimensions of 165.2 x 83.8 x 7.65mm and will weigh 172 grams.
The Xperia T2 Ultra dual will be the same phone, but will include dual SIM capability. Both SIM cards can be set independently with custom ring tones and one-touch switching between SIMs before making calls or sending texts. Also, you can keep both SIMs active, never missing a call, even while talking on one of them.
The Xperia T2 Ultra will come in three colours (black, white and purple) and launch with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Sony says the phone is designed specifically for customers in China, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific rim. The phone is set to launch during Q1 2014 in most global markets including the UK and Europe.
